A heat pump produces a lot of noise via the fans and compressors in the pump's outdoor part. This noise pollution can be annoying for local residents and personnel, but it also affects health.
Legally, there are standards established around noise pollution. As of April 1, 2021, the rules regarding noise pollution are stricter.

Custom noise barriers
ISOPARTNER Netherlands supplies custom-made Sonodamp sound barriers, from 1-sided to 4-sided versions, made of sendzimir galvanized steel, stainless steel or aluminum. The sound-insulating and sound-absorbing walls of the screen are built of self-supporting Sonodamp sandwich panels, the perforated plate on the inside provides a lot of sound absorption.
Construction is easy and fast thanks to the convenient coupling system. For a large sound barrier or outside on roofs, a steel structure is integrated. It is also possible to have a Sonodamp soundproof and sound-absorbing screen in a RAL color. We stock the most popular colors: RAL 9002 and RAL 7016.
Sonodamp sandwich panels
The panels are constructed of a closed sendzimir galvanized steel sheet on the outside, insulating wool is used in the core, and sound enters the insulating wool through a perforated sendzimir galvanized steel sheet. This provides a high absorption value of αs=0.95 and sound insulation of Rw=34dB(a).

Legislative adjustments effective April 1, 2021
Currently, the maximum sound power of a heat pump is not yet legislated in Europe.
The new legislation as of April 2021 deals with sound pressure and not sound power. Sound pressure is a derivative of sound power, but takes into account the distance from the receiver (the ear) to the heat pump. For example, sound pressure, or perceived sound, is greater at 1 meter from the heat pump than at 5 meters. Sound pressure is a useful addition to the current rules because it takes into account the nuisance to nearby residents.
What will those limits be?
The noise level (officially this term is used in the building code) must not exceed 45dB(A) in the day period (from 07:00 to 19:00), measured at maximum heat pump output. In the evening and night period (from 19:00 to 07:00), the noise level must be lower than 40 dB(A) in quiet mode.
